Since June 2022, the IJB Group has been supporting the Valuta voor Veen project in the Hoitepolder near Langweer. Locally the water level has been raised there. As a result, the land sinks less, the CO2 emissions are lower and the biodiversity is improved. This leads, however, to a decreased productivity of the agricultural land, for which the farmer is compensated through income from certificates.
The IJB Group is one of the financiers of this project, which we have helped to make possible by purchasing 200 certificates. This contribution to the project works as follows: one certificate makes it possible to realise a CO2 reduction of one tonne. The objective of the entire project is to realise a total reduction of at least 4,000 tonnes of CO2 in ten years. Using the measurement results, the CO2 performance is checked and verified by an independent authority, the National Carbon Market Foundation (Stichting Nationale Koolstofmarkt).
The objectives of Valuta voor Veen are in line with those of the IJB Group. It is for good reason that we embrace the sustainability goals of the United Nations. Such a local project within the boundaries of the Municipality of De Fryske Marren – where the IJB Group is based – fits perfectly. With this we want to show that we take improving the climate and creating a healthier living environment seriously.
