First delivery of concrete rubble granulate to the IJB Group

An important sustainable step forwards

On Monday, 18 September 2023, the first ship delivering concrete rubble granulate arrived at the IJB Group in Lemmer. Concrete rubble granulate is a secondary (recycled) aggregate, which is re-claimed from material collected from demolished buildings and houses.

In the last construction industry holiday period, an extra storage container was realised alongside the existing harbour quay of the IJB site, in order to store this new secondary aggregate. The material will initially be used in the concrete mortar for the pile production in Lemmer, but will also be used later in other product groups.

In doing so, the IJB Group has taken an important step forward in its sustainability goals for 2030, which have been formulated as part of “Sustainable Capacity”. What’s more, customers, namely the larger contractors in the Netherlands, increasingly place the emphasis on the incorporation of recycled material in our products, so that the environmental impact of new houses is reduced. Of course, we also work actively in this.

In addition, the inclusion of secondary materials in our products is also an important part of the agreements in the “Nationale Betonakkoord” (National Concrete Agreement) in which the “Concrete Sector” has managed to translate the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015 into its own firm and specific goals.

As IJB Group, we are delighted that we have been able to take this step with the concrete rubble granulate.
